Rosh Hashanah 5787 • 2026

A new year.

A shared story.

Together, we create a community shaped by sisterhood, enriched by spirituality and called to pursue justice.

A MESSAGE FOR THE NEW YEAR

May we begin in sweetness.

As one Jewish year turns toward the next, we pause with gratitude for the many ways we have gathered, learned, celebrated and cared for one another.

Throughout this past year, Women of TIOH has created countless opportunities to connect: around tables, through Jewish learning and celebration, and in service to our congregation and wider community.

These moments reflect the values at the heart of our work: Sisterhood that reminds us we are never alone, Spirituality that roots us in meaning and tradition, and Social Justice that calls us to turn compassion into action.

As we enter 5787, may we continue to make room for one another, welcome new voices and bring our shared values to life.

May the year ahead bring you and those you love good health, joy and peace.

With warmth and gratitude,

Aliza (Al) Lesser

President, Women of TIOH

VOICES OF WOMEN OF TIOH

Three pillars. One shared purpose.

"

What particularly fuels and inspires me is Women of TIOH’s continuing commitment to The Lunch Project for more than thirty years. Serving the young people at My Friend’s Place is gratifying and rooted in Torah’s call to provide for those in need. It brings together Sisterhood, Spirituality and Social Justice through teamwork, learning and service.

Service rooted in Torah

"

May this New Year awaken the power of Sisterhood, reminding us that together our voices, hearts and hands can create change. May Spirituality deepen our connection to one another, to our traditions and to the hope that guides us forward. And may our commitment to Social Justice inspire us to stand with courage and compassion, bringing greater dignity, equality and healing to our world.

A blessing for the year ahead

We gather

Sisterhood

01

We make room for one another. Around tables, through laughter, in celebration and in moments of need, Women of TIOH turns connection into community.

LEGACY

Since I was a child, Sisterhood has meant friendship, connection and support. My mother, Claire Fox Wolpe, was Sisterhood president when I was seven, and I have been involved ever since.

BELONGING

Women of TIOH keeps me connected and  makes me feel part of something larger than myself. It also keeps memories of my parents and grandparents alive.

LIFTING ONE ANOTHER

I am continually inspired by the power of sisterhood: the way women lift one another up, create space for one another and remind each other that we are never alone.

A year of showing up, reaching out and growing together.

We deepen

Spirituality

02

We create joyful, meaningful ways to experience Jewish life. Through ritual, learning, music and shared tradition, we find new paths into the sacred.

FAMILY & TRADITION

The cycle of Jewish ritual has resonated deeply with our family. Our daughter became a Bat Mitzvah and was confirmed in the TIOH sanctuary, then returned years later to be married beneath my late father’s tallit, which had also covered my husband and me at our wedding and renewal of vows. The sweetness of those cycles runs deep.

LEARNING TOGETHER

Becoming an adult B’not Mitzvah alongside five other TIOH women was spiritually rewarding. Through learning together, I formed meaningful connections with women I had not known before.

Our values calll us beyond ourselves. Together, we turn compassion into action and help build a more just, generous and sustaining world.

SUSTAINED SERVICE

I am inspired by Women of TIOH’s commitment to The Lunch Project for more than thirty years. Serving young people at My Friend’s Place brings together teamwork, Torah and our responsibility to provide for those in need.

ANSWERING THE CALL

Rabbi Jocee’s commitment to Social Justice inspired me to join TIOH’s School on Wheels tutoring program. Before long, I was chairing the committee. Working with children facing homelessness and instability was both eye-opening and deeply moving.

AN INTENTION TO ACT

Serving others does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes it means offering our time, presence or voice when it is needed. My intention is to continue showing up with compassion and courage, using whatever gifts I have to help create a more just world.

PAULINDA SCHIMMEL

Small acts, shared purpose, lasting impact.

All of us, together.

One community. Countless connections.
